While the Orlando Magic were busy hanging their Southeast Division banner on opening night of the NBA season, the Hawks were hard at work trying to snatch it away this season.

Just the sight of the five of them on the floor together caused heads to turn.

Hawks point guard Mike Bibby has been around the NBA long enough to know that for every time you're on the ugly side of a big shot, you'll have chances to take one to make up for it.

No team finished 2008 like the Hawks, winners of nine of their last 10 games and six straight overall to finish the calendar year.

When asked to explain the Hawks' newfound prowess, both at Philips Arena and away from home, Joe Johnson's answer is simple.

Indianapolis — Josh Smith isn't sure how superstitious his Hawks teammates are, but he has a suggestion if they're looking for a magic number this season.

You'll have to forgive Al Horford for not being as overwhelmed by the Hawks' hot start as some of his teammates.

On paper the Hawks' eight-game home stand looked good for a team that had to play 14 of its first 22 games this season on the road.

You couldn't tell by the score, or the way his team was pillaged Saturday, but Chicago coach Vinny Del Negro has the Hawks figured out.

• LET'S DO IT AGAIN: Hawks point guard Mike Bibby tried to win a 3-point shooting contest at the All-Star Game once and came up short. After years of watching the league's best shooters attempt to snatch the crown, he'd like another shot in February in Phoenix, his hometown. "I'd definitely love another crack at it," said Bibby, who entered Saturday's game against Chicago at Philips Arena third in the league from beyond the 3-point line at 43.2 percent. "The last time I was in it they didn't even have my shoes. It was my second year in the league and the All-Star Game was in Oakland. I guess my shoes didn't make it through customs [Bibby was playing for Vancouver then]."
